Promotional photo for the play "Scent". A white woman with long red hair tied back is seen from the back. Her grey long cardigan drops down and shows off bare shoulders. She is sitting, turning to the side to pour a glass of red wine. The background is dusty grey and the effect is like an oil painting.

Scent

Scent is a new solo show – a raw tale of romance and regret, infused with a bit of humour, baking, terrible dancing, and lots and lots of wine. It aims to contend with the iron grip of grief, the unwieldiness of love, and the joy and the pain of remembering.

Written and performed by emerging playwright Stacey Cullen, she is thrilled to be making her Edinburgh Fringe debut.

Jamie knows wine. But she won’t drink rosé. She can’t. Instead she’s drinking bottle after bottle of cheap red wine, her preferred chaser for an ever increasing dose of Prozac. Whatever will help her to bury what needs burying while still maintaining base functions… like baking a loaf of honey and oat bread. Or taking a walk in the rain.

But she is trying to dig her way out. And maybe really, truly confronting the sordid, the wondrous, the painful things that brought her here… maybe that is just the rope she needs. The question is: will she grab onto it?
